Do not bring guns or ammunition into Mexico. -
Do not try to work in Mexico without the proper forms. -
Do not try to buy property in Mexico without the proper forms.
While in Rocky Point, secure your vehicle at all times. If you have a Club or similar device, use it.
Make sure you have Mexican auto insurance on your vehicle. Don't keep it in your car,
in case you need it later. If you are renting
a car to drive to Rocky Point, make sure that the rental company offers insurance in Mexico.
If you bring your dog, make sure you carry documents from your veterinarian evidencing
rabies shots. Do not try to return to the U.S. with any wildlife, plants, fruit, coral, or
fireworks. Keep your receipts for items purchased. You may need them for Customs.
Don't break the law. Don't speed, don't use drugs, and don’t get in a fight
The Mexican judicial
system is not like ours in the U.S. and it could be months before you ever get a trial. When you get your
trial, don't expect a jury. Mexico is one of the top places to find
Americans in jail, so take my advice: Enjoy the beautiful beaches and
the wonderful food and weather of Puerto Peñasco. But be a polite
guest and don't get in any trouble. Traveling in Sonora,
Puerto Peñasco – Rocky Point, Mexico – Entering into this region of Mexico is fast,
easy and is hassle free. All you need is a passport or drivers license
for identification purposes. If you’re driving to Rocky Point you will
need to fill out a simple form and that’s it. NEVER DRIVE IN MEXICO
WITHOUT INSURANCE Am I required to
have auto insurance in Mexico?
Absolutely, it's the Law!
Mexican authorities do not recognize foreign (US or Canadian) auto
insurance. Mexican authorities only recognize auto insurance
underwritten by a Mexican insurance company. If you are in an accident
or other vehicle-related problem while driving without Mexican
auto insurance, it is highly likely that your vehicle could be confiscated and you could be detained by the police. NEVER DRIVE IN
MEXICO WITHOUT INSURANCE.
We recommend either of the below Mexican Insurance Companies

of tourists run stop signs and railroad crossings and are stopped for
these infractions. Remember the saying “ignorance of the law is no

Mexico no more than it does anywhere else.

safe to use it for bathing and cooking (if boiled). You can buy bottled water from any grocery or convenience store. Some (make sure
you ask) of the more exclusive hotels and resorts have purified tap
water, but bottled water is always recommended. Plus all the
restaurants in the area serve l purified water some even have it for
sale. These restaurants use ice made from bottled water, but it's a
good idea to ask your server before you order anything that uses ice
in it. The purified water sold in bottles or offered in restaurants is the same
as what US and Canadians are used to drinking, so you should not have
any problems if you stick to drinking the purified water.
Is it safe to eat in Mexico
The local cuisine is one of the many reasons people travel to Rocky
Point for. The food is scrumptious, fresh and offers some of the best
dining experiences south of the border. Fish and shrimp are caught
daily and are sold direct to the traveler from fish markets in Old
Port. You can take your catch of the day to many local restaurants
where they will prepare it for you or you can take it back to your
condo and cook it yourself. This doesn’t mean you may not become ill
from the food. Due to a variety of reasons it is still possible to get
sick because you are not adapted to the local food.

Despite all the
restaurants, true Mexican flavor can only be experienced at the
roadside taco stands. The good ones are easy to spot; look for the
ones with the most people and avoid the ones with no one or very few
people there. It is important to remember that all restaurant food comes from the
grocery store. All taco stand food comes from the same local
market. The way that food is stored, handled, and prepared determines
its ultimate level of quality (and safety). Locals know which roadside
taco stand operators practice freshness and follow high preparation
standards. These are the stands that are busy and the only ones you
should try. Experiencing the roadside taco stand is one of the most enjoyable aspects of eating in México.

Speaking of shopping I understand that prescription drugs are very inexpensive
and you don’t need a prescription for them, is this true?
Penalties for drug offenses are strict, and convicted offenders can expect jail sentences
up to 25 years and fines. As in the United States, the purchase of
controlled medication requires a doctor's prescription. The Mexican
list of controlled medication differs from that of the U.S., and
Mexican public health laws concerning controlled medication are
unclear and often enforced selectively. The U.S. Embassy continuously warns
U.S. citizens against traveling to Mexico for the only purpose of buying
prescription drugs. Many U.S. citizens have been arrested, even though
their prescriptions were written by a physician and filled by a
licensed Mexican pharmacist.
Possession of any quantity of prescription medicine
(especially psychotropic drugs, such as valium) brought from the
United States can result in arrest if Mexican authorities suspect
abuse or if the quantity of the prescription medicine exceeds the
amount required for several days' use. Individuals should think about
carrying a copy of the prescription and a doctor's letter explaining
that the quantity of medication is fitting for their personal medical
use. It is recommended that any U.S. citizen(s), who
intend to go to Mexico to acquire medication or who may be in
possession of medication prescribed in the United States, should check
with the closest Mexican consulate before traveling to Mexico.

you. If roaming charges are to high or service is not offered by your
cellular company you can buy telephone cards to be used in many
payphones. Phone cards are available probably much cheaper to use
than cell service and are offered [here] for your convenience.
Is there anything for children to do?

boat rides, shell-collecting, clamming, horse back riding, ATV Riding,
a visit to the Cet-Mar Aquarium in Old Port , sailing, charter boat
rides, fishing,

have become acquainted with over the many years of traveling and

Puerto Peñasco (Rocky Point), Mexico
Once you cross the border into Mexico you need to realize you
are literally in another country and that country is very
different from the United States or Canada or for that matter
anything you are typically accustomed to. This difference
becomes evident immediately as you enter the town of Sonoita.
The city looks a little run down in spots, some of the roads
are paved and some are dirt.
There are road side
food stands all over town that look “make shift” at best with
people cooking on charcoal barbeque grills and using crock
pots. The buildings are colorful and of course everything is
now in Spanish.
More often than not, first time visitors will tell
you visiting this part of México is like taking a trip back in time. A time
when life was simpler, where people greeted
you with a smile and a hand shake. A place where the pace of
life is much slower and mom and pop businesses
flourished.
For some people this slower paced life style can be very
frustrating and easy to become impatient with.
However as soon as you adapt to the local customs, traditions,
culture, ethnicity and general way of life in Mexico you will
find it a traveller's paradise. Especially Rocky Point, which has a spirit that
soaks itself deep into your soul and beckons for you to return again and again.
So leave your tension and restfulness at home and soak in the atmosphere of the
area. Just give yourself a little time to adjust to this difference and learn to
enjoy it. Believe me you’ll be home before you know it to get back to
the every day hustle and bustle of your normal routine.
